Focusing on translating cutting edge research into business success, Science Central is a £500 million plan to breathe new life into the old Scottish and Newcastle Brewery site close to St James’ Park.
The 15-year project could create up to 3,000 jobs across the region, linking with Newcastle University, the Centre for Life and the Royal Victoria Infirmary to make Newcastle truly a Science City.
The development will include scientific research and development facilities alongside office accommodation for science-based businesses. The site will also feature family housing and postgraduate student accommodation as well as community and leisure facilities. Quality public spaces and good pedestrian links between West Newcastle and the City Centre are also a priority.
Demolition of the former brewery buildings is now complete, with a detailed masterplan set to be considered by the Science City Board and the Council’s Executive over the coming months.
