If you've been down Stanhope Street lately, you'll have seen that its artistic revamp is mostly complete - and looking great - after a £1.35 million scheme led by Centre West and the City Council.
The street now boasts stunning metal sculptures, vibrant banners and distinctive railings - and even the litter bins are decorated. Meanwhile, new parking bays, paving and a giant zebra crossing are helping to tackle congestion.
“I often have to cross Stanhope Street, as my in-laws live on the other side, and it’s much easier and safer now that the traffic has been slowed down,” said local mother Naseem Bashir, admiring the street’s new ‘pocket park’ with her children at this week's grand launch event.
Croydon Road resident Kasam Ali, 18, said:
"I've lived in this area all my life and it's improved a lot over the past few years – I hope this will help to make it an even better neighbourhood. I like the sculptures – the whole thing gives the place more atmosphere.
The next few months will see a few finishing touches being added, including tree planting later in the year.
